“How come it’s growing and flowers don’t grow when it’s cold?”

When the three and four year olds at Charlotte Children’s Center received a vase of tulip bulbs it was an opportunity to investigate. They worked together set an area in the classroom for the new plants. The center was complete with magnifying glasses, books on bulbs, care directions, a watering can, and a map of the world. The group marked where the tulips came from and where the school was located. Each week, students had the opportunity to draw the tulips so that they might record changes in the plants over time. They made observations of their drawings and drew conclusions about how the plants grew.
