The three and four year olds at Charlotte Children’s Center were enamoured with building, but were challenged by setting an intention with their mark-making. Rather than setting out to draw a cat, they named their creations after the fact. To help the children practice planning and execution architectual plans from a local construction company were introduced, along with a series of provocations to help them practice bringing their visions to fruition. The children practiced creating structures with various materials based on the plans. They later had the opportunity to imagine a building, draw it, and then create it with materials from the classroom.
